O great compassionate Buddha,
Ven. Master Hsing Yun,
Born in Jiangsu, tonsured at Qixia,
Trained in Tsunglin Monastery then
Crossed the sea to Taiwan.
He who,
Endeavored to build a
Humanistic Pure Land to benefit all beings,
Propagated the Dharma on the Five Continents,
Has now come to the end of the journey,
Accomplished the goals of his life.
Ready to let go of his worldly ties
To reach the end of this lifetime.
O great compassionate Buddha,
As his disciples, devotees, and friends
Gather before you.
We seek your compassion and blessings,
We seek your guidance and teachings.
We would like to say to you,
O great compassionate Buddha,
The esteemed Ven. Master Hsing Yun was
A Humanistic Buddhist practitioner,
A patriarch who taught and benefited,
A bodhisattva who delivered all,
A teacher respected by heaven and humanity,
A most venerable of compassion and wisdom.
He gave his all for Buddhism,
and did all he could for living beings.
He tread on the difficult path of rekindling Buddhism,
He established the Sangha and founded the monastery.
He renewed Buddhism, leading the way,
Devoting his life to the teachings, selflessly.
Now we,
Your four assemblies of disciples,
Pray to our dearest Ven. Master,
Please worry not for us,
We shall abide by your words,
To shoulder the responsibilities,
To carry on the Fo Guang Legacy.
As we bid our farewells for now,
May you return on the wings of your vows,
To continue teaching the world,
And liberating all beings.
O great compassionate Buddha,
Life is like an ever-flowing river,
The voices of Dharma shall go on unending.
Stars may fade, descending from the sky,
Leaves may fall back to their roots,
Life’s brilliance will continue, forever shining,
The legacy of Fo Guang shall flourish, forever transcending.
