Now Accepting Applications for 2024!

Are you a graduating high school senior with an interest in translation, editing, and/or graphic design? Are you interested in learning more about Buddhism? Are you bilingual in Mandarin & English?

We are excited to offer multiple scholarships, in partnership with the AJ Wang Foundation: $2,000/year awards are available for up to four years for qualifying students planning to attend college in Southern California.

Our goal is to support bilingual students in the community so they can achieve academic success and personal growth.

Students will gain hands-on experience working directly with the International Translation Center on a variety of self-enrichment projects and have the opportunity to attend special events and workshops at Hsi Lai Temple in Hacienda Heights, CA. Any level of interest is welcome!

The Sumati Sutra
as Discoursed by the Buddha

佛說妙慧童女經

In The Sumati Sutra, the eight-year-old girl Sumati makes the vow to become a Buddha, and the Buddha prophesies that she will definitely become a Buddha in the future! She raises ten questions about how one should cultivate in life. The Buddha addresses each question with four specific methods of practice. The Buddha teaches this sutra for the sake of young people, to inspire women to be courageous and diligent, for the happiness and prosperity of all people, and for the right to life, equality, and liberation of all beings.
